Sure, Obama’s opponents want him to ‘own’ the Gulf oil spill problem. But he runs greater risks by not taking charge.

As the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico began, many people were immediately flooded with memories of the infamous Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989. BP and Exxon Valdezs spills are very parallel, Greg Palast would know all about that. He investigated the oil spill in 1989 from the Exxon Valdez and he says BP should have had the safety precautions in place before ever starting to drill.

I have a deep concern that this oil spill could destroy the ecological balance of planet Earth and ultimately perhaps even destroy Earth as we know it. I do not think BP is as interested in stopping the gushing of the oil, as in containing as much of it as possible, to sell.
