New oil spill found at US rig disaster site in Gulf of Mexico

Posted on May 31, 2010 by bp complaints

US coast guard officials say they have found a new leak at the site where an offshore drilling rig sank into the Gulf of Mexico last week. They estimated five thousands barrels were now leaking into the sea every day. Earlier clean up crews lit a controlled test fire in to try and clean up the slick. The spill is threatening wildlife and fisheries on the coastline.

    The Coast Guard and National Guard would help as they usually do with a crisis, moving, building, security, whatever is needed as far as labor. Scientists have the ideas, but you need planning and organization as well.

    And if Obama didn’t know about the violations, it wouldn’t be the first time his round table of Czars and staff dropped the ball. He should have at least reacted sooner and shown he cared, even if he didn’t.

    @kumar1rocks

    Its a British Oil Company that caused this smart ass! Its not the US that allowed this to happen, its the oversight comity run by the UN. As in United Nations.

    Unfortunatly, I voted for the guy. Now, I see through him. I thought he was the lesser of two evils with McCain, because he is a wishy washy flip flopper. But also remember, I voted for Bush the first time around, and not the 2nd. I wanted Mit Romney, but he dropped out. So, Obama it was. BIG mistake.

  4. Valkyriepure says:

    a few months ago your new mesiah ( obama ) was all for ‘ drill baby drill ‘ , hes just upset that this leak is too big to cover up.

  5. konman001 says:

    I don’t like Obama, but I do believe in being fair with assessing someone’s performance – cuz later you have to evaluate your “guy” by the same measuring stick.

  6. konman001 says:

    1 – Does the national coast guard or national guard know how to stop oil leaks at such depth? Scientists migh have an idea, but it would probably take long time to test & implement. Also, if Obama did any of these things then next day Rush Limbaugh would blast him for having his “socialist” government involved in this situation.

    2. Was Obama made aware of BP violations prior to the oil leak?

  7. mnyshrpknvs says:

    @konman001

    National Guard, Scientists, Coast Guard etc. etc. The President has any resource at his disposal including any technology needed to help with the stopping of the leak and the clean up.
    Using your imagination and common sense would have easily answered the 2nd part of your own question.

  8. mnyshrpknvs says:

    @konman001

    I don’t remember Bush talking transparency on his election campaign. Obama was the one talking change. Then everyone oohed and aahed, then bowed before the great one.
    The only thing I see is more closed door policy, hidden agendas and stalling from this administration. Inspectors should have been sent to these platforms right out of the gate. BP had enough violations to warrant immediate action.

    I am not saying he is all to blame, BP and others hold that award.

  9. konman001 says:

    1 – The platform was there long before Obama was in the office. . . so why didn’t Bush follow your idea of “transparency and oversight” in regards to BP? Also, what do exactly would this “tansparency and oversight” be in this particular case – I ask because it is a nice sounding term yet nobody clearly defines it.

    2 – What resources exactly did he have power to send to the site and what would they have achieved in the midst of this disaster?

  10. indiemuzochick says:

    It all comes down to greed and all of us black, white, yellow etc are guilty of that. It’s not about racism. It’s about putting the planet and our future generations before ourselves. Of course the leaders like Obama etc are limited in their power to act anyhow. Oil equates to money equates to power equates to control and the real question how much control does any president really have? Look at what happened to JK when he took a stand for his country.

    Increased transparency and oversite on companies that have violations which could effect National Security, like this one. And this is small compared terrorists blowing up a few tankers or a few Oil Platforms.
    He could have stepped in and start sending resources to the effected area to stop or slow contamination.

  14. konman001 says:

    I don’t like Obama either but to be fair he is NOT responsible for the oil spill. BP and any party (politican, safety inspection, etc.) which looked the other way and allowed them to install an obviously substandard off-shore oil rig are resposible for this.

    Still, if you have specific plans/ideas which clearly show how Obama could’ve handled this situation to reduce the damage from the spill then please share them with us.

    I can also prove using fluid dynamics that 43 mil G P D are spewing from this hole

    99% of these poor creatures will fall to the bottom of the ocean rather than float.

    With simple fluid dynamics I have proved that there are 43,000,000 GPDof oil spewing from this hole

    Area { X } pressure { = } VOLUME / FLOW RATE /FORCE every day of the week & if they gave us the pressure we could figure this out in seconds

    TONY HAYWART U LOW LIFE PROVE ME WRONG!

    TELL US THE REAL PRESSURE?

    @Juanygirl Obama has done absolutely NOTHING to even attempt to stop/plug the millions of gallons of oil gushing into the Gulf. He could have, at the very least, sent in the Navy or Coast Guard to attempt to plug the hole, or to stop the oil that has spilled from reaching the coast. Instead he points fingers, as he always does. He would blame Bush again, if it were not such a broken record.
