NEW ORLEANS A Coast Guard MH-65C rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans films a fire aboard the mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) Deepwater Horizon, while searching for survivors April 21, 2010. Multiple Coast Guard helicopters, planes and cutters are responding to rescue 126 people after the Coast Guard eighth district command center received a report that the Deepwater Horizon had experienced an explosion at approximately 10 p.m. April 20, 2010. Horrified Pilot Sees Oil Spill Clumps Near Gulf Coast (Update1)
May 5 (Bloomberg) — Oil is still gushing from BP Plc’s leaking rig, 80 miles from the Gulf Coast. It hasn’t yet touched shore in the Alabama city of Mobile, though some residents say they can smell the fumes of the approaching slick. Coast Guard officials say it’s onshore elsewhere.
