Oil Spill off the Gulf Of Mexico 2010

Posted on May 23, 2010 by bp complaints

NEW ORLEANS — Government officials said late Wednesday night that oil might be leaking from a well in the Gulf of Mexico at a rate five times that suggested by initial estimates. In a hastily called news conference, Rear Adm. Mary E. Landry of the Coast Guard said a scientist from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration had concluded that oil is leaking at the rate of 5000 barrels a day, not 1000 as had been estimated. While emphasizing that the estimates are rough given that the leak is at 5000 feet below the surface, Admiral Landry said the new estimate came from observations made in flights over the slick, studying the trajectory of the spill and other variables. An explosion and fire on a drilling rig on April 20 left 11 workers missing and presumed dead. The rig sank two days later about 50 miles off the Louisiana coast. Doug Suttles, chief operating officer for exploration and production for BP, said a new leak had been discovered as well. Officials had previously found two leaks in the riser, the 5000-foot-long pipe that connected the rig to the wellhead and is now detached and snaking along the sea floor. One leak was at the end of the riser and the other at a kink closer to its source, the wellhead. But Mr. Suttles said a third leak had been discovered Wednesday afternoon even closer to the source. Im very, very confident this leak is new, he said. He also said the discovery of the new leak had not led them to believe that the total flow from the well

hah it’s a trip how its written that in the last days the seas would turn red like blood. im not religious or nothing just an observation, just like its written that we would have a leader promising change and prosparity but will end up delivering pretty much the opposite of that..

  2. SeaShepherdSecurity says:

@HeyYoKillEmo Yeah you’re right, and if they win the lawsuit they’ll keep the money for there own greed.

  3. HeyYoKillEmo says:

PurityOfTheWolf is right, you know? o uo
The problem with the oil spill shouldn’t have even happened in the first place. It’s the fact that the people who work at the oil company and build the pipeline and such are idiots . C:

  11. SHREDpHoBiA says:

Well now we have two black seas…

  12. SHREDpHoBiA says:

    @Plantum21 Well said :]

  13. webwelder2000 says:

We need about 10000 beaners in diving suits to swim down and plug the hole with weedeaters and tortilla dough. Another 10000 could be swimming the gulf in a giant bean chain with booms between them to skim the oil the divers miss. If we could just make this happen we fix the spill and immigration problems in one shot! ARRREEEBBBAAAA!

  24. PurityOfTheWolf says:

Yeah, sure this is a big problem right now. But off-shore drilling only causes 1% of oil pollution such as this leak. And then we got run-off from land that causes over 70% of it! We make a big deal out of this now but since when has it been such a big boom with run-off? I say that if we can put as much effort into a oil spill like this one now, then we should try doing to same about the oil that is constantly spilling into our oceans every day.

If I saw all the oil vampires of the world ripped to streds and their blood gushing freely out of the ocean just like the oil is gushing out now, it would not be enough punishment for what they’ve done. And that includes the head honchos in the Minerals Management Dept and Dept. of Interior who approved the drilling & every politican who owns a oil well and/or stock.

  27. AquarielCharms says:

@LIGHTOFPERSIA – in the 1980s electrical cars were crushed. If those electric cars were around today no wars for oil would have occurred, many men, women and children (military & civilian) would be alive today, stopping the pollution that grows daily on the planet & eliminated 1 less gargantuan problem. 29. AquarielCharms says:

I read there are 5,300+ active oil wells around the world & 4,000 of them are in the Gulf of Mexico. And I was worried about a nuclear accident. Images of the Gulf oil disaster: waterfortheages(.)org/2010/05/20/gulf-oil-spill-of-2010-images-of-the-disaster/

well done, BP sucks. I was in Valdez after the drunk Captain got stuck on the reef. it is sort amazing the greed and avarice in this world. I just want to ;ive somewhat comfortably. I don’t need multi-million dollar bonuses. A consortium of oil producers should get together as one to clean up the gulf. They could clean it up fast and still break even and start all over again acting within regulations. Because you know they’ll never quit.

  46. robertdjwizard says:

Here goes my message to the oil industry “FUCK THIS PUTOS GREEDY MOTHER FUCKERS”

  47. AdamEtheredge says:

Dick Cheney and the CEO’s of Halliburton, Transocean, and BP MUST all be carefully protected in advance of their respective fair trials. I suggest not only police protection for these men, but also Secret Service, and perhaps even active-duty military protection for these honorable men.
I have heard reports of VERY large armies of dolphins, organizing specifically to gangrape these men in a VERY passionate and violent manner.
Dolphin Rape Gangs. Look out for them, Oil Whores…
