AUSTIN – Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson on Monday announced the Texas General Land Office’s Oil Spill Prevention and Response Program is working closely with the U.S. Coast Guard for a coordinated response to the state’s first confirmed impact from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Whale Found Dead in Gulf
The NOAA Ship Pisces found a dead sperm whale floating just miles south of the oil spill site at Deepwater Horizon Tuesday. It was not found in oil, but the cause of death is unknown.

New oil spill found at US rig disaster site in Gulf of Mexico 26

US coast guard officials say they have found a new leak at the site where an offshore drilling rig sank into the Gulf of Mexico last week. They estimated five thousands barrels were now leaking into the sea every day. Earlier clean up crews lit a controlled test fire in to try and clean up the slick. The spill is threatening wildlife and fisheries on the coastline.
