BP vows to pay all costs of oil spill cleanup

Posted on May 29, 2010 by bp complaints

www.timesofearth.com SAN FRANCISCO – Oil giant BP has said that it will pay for all the cleanup costs from a ruptured oil well in the Gulf of Mexico that could continue spewing crude oil for at least another week. The British company issued a statement on its website on Monday, saying that it took responsibility for the Deepwater Horizon spill and would pay compensation for legitimate claims for property damage, personal injury and commercial losses. “We are responsible, not for the accident, but we are responsible for the oil and for dealing with it and cleaning the situation up,” Tony Hayward, BP’s chief executive, said on Monday on the TV show, Good Morning America. He said that the equipment that failed on the rig and led to the spill belonged to a company called Transocean, and not BP. Guy Cantwell, a Transocean spokesman, said that they would not speculate but rather wait for all the facts before drawing a conclusion. Eric Holder, the US attorney general, said that the justice department was taking part in an ongoing investigation into the spill. “We are part of an ongoing monitoring [effort] and investigation along with our partners at DHS [the department of homeland security] and other agencies that are involved,” Holder said. However, a justice department official said that it was yet not a criminal probe. Barack Obama, the US president, said on Sunday that his administration would require BP to bear all costs. “BP is responsible for this leak; BP will be paying

  4. jjlinert says:

Yes, of course, BP wants to foot the bill for the clean up….They are so altruistic and care about people, wildlife and the oceans ecosystem……
There’s also some cheap ocean front property in Kansas as the saying goes.

  7. AFAskygoddess says:

There isn’t enough money on the fcuking planet to compensate for the damage this has caused.

How can you put a price on the delight your child experiences when splashing in the water at the beach? What compensation could BP give to never have another gulf resident go fishing, or see a pod of dolphins at sunset?

Money is how the devil measures life. Moments of joy is how I do.

  8. lialammas says:

Dejavu ….We need better laws to protect our treasure. Otherwise these will happen again & again.
Who they are going to fool next. The American people should not allow any more exploration until we have guarantees. It is too high price we are going to pay for the future of the Gulf.
    This is criminal.

  9. 1911arthur says:

Bp will avoid paying for this with their team of lawyers. Who do they think they are kidding?
    Boycott all their products,forever.

  10. miranger says:

Yes thinning out species and a bunch of dead wildlife is fixed easily with money you’re right fuckin morons…
what is this dumb fuckin world coming to…

  11. teloscaylos says:

I can’t imagine how they’ll ever clean that up. After 90 days you won’t be able to put a price tag on the cleanup, because the technology doesn’t exist to which would clean up such a massive disaster. Thus in the conventional sense it could cost trillions, all things considered.

Also remember once upon a time another oil company saying they would pay all costs for clean up 20 yrs ago and still havent spent a penny for it.

  13. N2fishin says:

isnt it funny how they couldnt shut off the valve so they had to wait until they could come up with a method that would alow them to collect the oil and still be able to use it. at the cost of our wetlands!

  14. videosouthafrica says:

BP cant possibly pay ALL costs … how arrogant is that … fools … the cost of bringing one dead crab back to life they cant even do … you are MORONS

  15. annie46664 says:

This is tragic! OMG! Especially since there is absolutely NEVER any need to remove oil from Earth anyway! If the bastards aka VAMPIRES weren’t so greedy, we would’ve all converted to harmless, readily available & very inexpensive tried & tested alternatives.
Blinking oil results in unnecessary WARS, assassinations, massive pollution, countless health issues & harm to our most precious planet through removing her BLOOD!
It’s DISGRACEFUL! Hopefully something like this will create a turning point!
